I Mend PC

4. Elderly man just bought a new laptop with the latest Windows 8 laptop to replace an old PC running an old version of Windows back in 2003. However he wanted to use his HP Laserjet 4L printer that he bought in 1996 for a princely sum of £700 (this printer was launched in 1993) but rarely used since but to print a few pages a month these days. I was able to get his latest brand new laptop to print to this old printer (with a large parallel port printer cable).

5. Lady’s computer run out of space. I upgraded her PC’s storage disk and moved all the data contents from the old disk to this new disk with no loss of data.

6.  Lady was given an old IBM Thinkpad from a friend with very short battery life because of age.  Lady only used computer occasionally and she wanted this PC to boot up and shut down much faster as Windows Vista was rather slow with the old hardware. After checking that it was not short of memory, I upgraded the laptop’s disk to a much faster solid state disk as these have become quite cheap and reliable these days. The result was that her Thinkpad took less than half the time to boot up and shut down (with the aim of some optimisation of Windows too).

7. A trivial one, elderly gentleman kept on getting regular Microsoft Word documents about management committee and AGM meetings which he could not open because the sender, also retired, kept on sending these new format Word documents in the latest Microsoft Office suite anyway rather than using a old format! I was able to install a compatibility pack to his computer to resolve this issue. He can now open these new format documents merrily.

8. Lady not familiar with technical things and not being technical could not get the photos from her smart phone and tablet to a photo printing shop. I did this and whilst I was there set up these gadgets to transfer photos to her PC at home so that she could work and view these photos.
